Our Legacy
From our beginnings in 1970 to the generations that followed, our legacy is rooted in family, perseverance, and a shared passion for growing.
Where It All Began
Founded in 1970 by Tony Heuver on 400 acres beside Eagle Lake, just east of Strathmore, Alberta, the nursery was built on hard work, perseverance, and a belief in doing things well. What began on one farm has grown through decades of learning, adapting, and investing in the people and production practices needed to grow quality plant material for prairie landscapes.
Today, under the leadership of Tony’s daughter, Anita Heuver, Eagle Lake has grown to approximately 1,000 acres across four farm sites. Our production includes extensive field-grown caliper trees and shrubs, container production, greenhouse space, and crop-rotation land that supports the long-term health of our fields.
The Tony & Anne Heuver Legacy Garden holds a special place in the heart of Eagle Lake Nurseries.
A Letter From Anita
It stands as a living tribute to my parents, Tony and Anne Heuver, whose vision, perseverance, and love for growing things shaped not only this nursery but also the community that surrounds it.
Now that both Mom and Dad have passed away, the garden has taken on even deeper meaning. It is a space where their spirit continues to grow, where the values they planted in all of us take root and flourish.
A Garden of Remembrance and Renewal
Every plant in the Legacy Garden was personally chosen and placed by me, with intention and reflection. Each tree, shrub, and perennial tells a story—of seasons past and those still to come—and together they form a landscape that celebrates both legacy and renewal.
The garden was brought to life entirely by our team, who poured their hearts into it even during the busiest times of the season. Many came after hours or on weekends to dig, plant, and water, treating each task not as extra work but as a labour of love. Their dedication speaks volumes about the kind of people who make up Eagle Lake Nurseries and the shared pride we all have in this place.
An Invitation to Explore
For our customers and visitors, the Legacy Garden is more than a memorial; it’s an open invitation to experience the beauty and diversity of plants that thrive on the prairies. It’s a place to explore, to learn, and to find inspiration for gardens and landscapes of their own.
Every plant here is a reflection of the quality, hardiness, and care that define what we grow. And just as these plants will continue to take root and mature with time, so too will the legacy of Tony and Anne, living on through every landscape their influence touches.
