Our Business Roots

Founded in 1970 by Tony Heuver on 400 acres beside Eagle Lake, just east of Strathmore, Alberta, the nursery was built on hard work, perseverance, and a belief in doing things well. What began on one farm has grown through decades of learning, adapting, and investing in the people and production practices needed to grow quality plant material for prairie landscapes.

Today, under the leadership of Tony’s daughter, Anita Heuver, Eagle Lake has grown to approximately 1,000 acres across four farm sites.

From Our Fields to Your Landscapes

Our production includes extensive field-grown caliper trees and shrubs, container production, greenhouse space, and crop-rotation land that supports the long-term health of our fields.

Our plants now make their way into landscapes throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and beyond, including projects in the northern United States. While our nursery has changed considerably since 1970, our roots remain the same: grow quality plants, invest in good people, build strong relationships, and continue learning.

More than five decades later, we are still growing for what comes next.

Our Vision and Mission

Our Vision: The Nursery for Life

Plants have the ability to shape the places where we live, work, gather, and grow. They cool our cities, support biodiversity, improve our environment, and create landscapes that can be enjoyed for generations.

We envision Eagle Lake Nurseries as more than a supplier of plant material. We want to be a nursery that contributes to the long-term health of our landscapes, our industry, our people, and the communities we serve—a nursery for life.

Our Mission: Growing People that Grow Plants

Growing quality plants takes knowledgeable, capable, and committed people. Our mission recognizes that the future of Eagle Lake depends on investing in both.

We are committed to growing quality, prairie-hardy plant material while creating opportunities for our people to learn, develop their skills, share their knowledge, and contribute to the future of horticulture.

When our people grow, our plants, our customers, our company, and our industry grow with them.

Our Values

Our values reflect who we are, how we work, and how we build relationships with our employees, customers, partners, and community.

They have been shaped by more than 56 years of growing plants, growing people, and navigating the challenges that come with both.

Trust

We build lasting relationships by following through on our commitments, communicating openly, and earning confidence through our actions.

Honesty

We communicate openly and directly, even when the conversation is difficult. We believe strong relationships are built on transparency and doing what is right.

Reliability

We understand that our customers, coworkers, and partners depend on us. We take responsibility for our work, communicate when circumstances change, and work hard to be someone others can count on.

Community

We believe we are stronger when we grow together. We invest in our people, support our industry, share knowledge, and contribute to the communities where we live and work.

Respect

We value the people, knowledge, perspectives, land, and resources that make our work possible. We treat others with consideration and recognize the contribution every person makes to our shared success.

Resilience

Growing on the prairies teaches you to adapt. We meet challenges with perseverance, learn from experience, and keep moving forward through changing seasons, conditions, and opportunities.

Our Commitment

From the plants we grow to the relationships we build, our commitments guide how we work and serve our customers.
