The same plants the professionals buy, if you know what you want

Eagle Lake is a wholesale production nursery, not a garden centre. There is no greenhouse to wander through and no one to design your yard. What there is: hundreds of trees, shrubs and perennials grown on our farm near Strathmore for Alberta conditions, available to you with a free account and a bit of planning.

From Our Farm to Your Yard

It suits a particular kind of homeowner. You have a plan or a plant list, you want trees that have already been through a Prairie winter, and you are happy to order ahead and pick up at the farm. If that is you, you are very welcome here.

We have been growing on this land since 1970. Most of what we grow goes to landscapers, municipalities and builders, and it is the same stock you will take home.

Good Choices for an Alberta Yard

Hardy, forgiving plants that do well on a residential lot: a shade tree, a flowering tree, shrubs with fruit or colour, and perennials the pollinators will find.

A Friendly Note on Timing

Early spring is when everything is being dug and nothing is in leaf yet. Plants will look bare compared with a garden centre display, and that is normal for nursery stock.

If you want to see plants at their best, late May onward is a better time to visit.

What You Get From a Wholesale Nursery

  • Grown Here

Our field-grown trees have been through Alberta winters before they reach your yard. That matters more than how a plant looks on the day you buy it.

  • Nursery Sizes

We sell in nursery grades, from 11cm perennials to caliper trees over 100mm. A caliper tree is a serious piece of material that needs machinery to move and plant. If you are not sure which size is right for you, ask before you order.

  • A Family Farm Since 1970

Eagle Lake has been growing near Strathmore since 1970. Come and see the Legacy Garden when you pick up.

Questions Homeowners Ask

Can I come and walk around and pick my plants?

No. We are a production nursery and our crews pick every order. If you want to browse and hand-select, a retail garden centre is the better choice. If you know what you want, we are a good one.

Do you plant, or design my yard?

No. We grow and supply plants. A landscaper can do the design and installation, and many of them buy from us.

Is there a minimum order?

No. One plant is fine.

When should I plant: spring, summer or fall?

Spring and fall are the easier seasons. Summer planting works, but new plants will need much more attention to watering through the heat.

How often should I water after planting?

Deeply and less often is the rule. Soak the root zone, let the top few inches dry, and repeat, more often in the first few weeks and in hot weather. The care guide on each plant page has specifics.

What is the difference between a caliper tree and a potted tree?

A potted tree comes in a container you can lift. A caliper tree is field-grown, dug with a heavy root ball, and needs machinery to move and plant. For most yards without equipment, a potted tree is the practical choice.

Can I plant this early or late in the season?

Usually, as long as the ground is workable. Ask us about the specific plant and we will tell you what we would do.
