From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 156 visitors came out to the nursery east of Strathmore. Farm tours ran all day on the Eagle Lake train, taking guests out into the production fields to see how trees, shrubs and perennials are grown on close to 1,000 acres of prairie land. Our growers were on hand to answer questions about what we grow, how long it takes and why plants grown here perform the way they do in prairie landscapes.
Visitors could also adopt a tree or shrub to take home, and our one-day pop-up plant sale offered prairie-hardy trees, shrubs and perennials at farm-direct prices. For many guests it was a first look behind the scenes of a wholesale nursery, and a first chance to meet the people who grow the plants that end up in Calgary-area parks, streets and yards.
Open Farm Days is one of our favourite days of the year because it puts our mission into practice: Growing People that Grow Plants. Thank you to everyone who visited, and to our team for hosting.
