Get to know Annaleise

Annaliese has been with us since she was 19 and was invited by the Owner, Anita Heuver, to pursue a 4-year apprenticeship at Olds College. She started by taking on the greenhouse shipping, and in-between raising three children over the years, worked her way through being a grower, and then handling all the shipping and now moving into the inventory side.

She credits her kids with teaching her how to listen and with a drive to learn new things while being fully committed to giving them the best life possible. That passion is being passed-on: “My daughter shows an unbelievable interest in plants.”

The amount of knowledge she’s retained over the years surprises even her. But she loves working here for one reason: “I have amazing relationships with the people I work with, I love everybody that works with me… it is the people.”

Her advice to future horticulturalists: “Love what you do—I know it is a job but if you can embrace what you do it becomes more than a job.” For the really young ones, it is all about hands-on experience as she recalls, “when I grew those little bean plants in school from a seed… to see something coming out of what you do, well that just sticks with you and instills a real sense of purpose!”
