Meet our Business Development Manager, Charlie Varzé, who balances his role here between making our customers happy and making our culture work.
From managing 125 people on a team to overseeing multi-million dollar grow operations, he brings a huge bucket of experience to our little family on the farm.
Get to know Charlie
Charlie embraced the entrepreneur and the gardener in him from age 9 when he was paid a 25¢ allowance for watering houseplants. He grew to love plants, and even bonded over plants with his wife-to-be when they started dating!
His career in horticulture started ironically with an electronics engineering degree and the light bulb moment that followed: “A plant is a living computer.” That unique connection between technology and horticulture deepened as Charlie got hired at the entry level by an up and coming cannabis producer. Within three months he was the head grower. For this non-traditional, self-guided, relentless researcher with an analytical brain, the roller-coaster challenges in a rapidly growing, heavily capitalized industry provided extraordinary growth on every level.
Now, working with a smaller, more intimate team running the nursery, Charlie experiences a very different and more personal level of fulfillment and reward.
To the next generation of horticulturalists, he says, “Stay curious!” There’s a wondrous future ahead for them, where they’ll get to rewrite the rules for Green Infrastructure.
Charlie is urging us to embrace innovation to draw more of those bright young thinkers into the industry while at the same time keeping their feet on the ground and connected to living plants.
