Edwina
Caliper Production/Shipping Supervisor
Meet Edwina, our Production and Shipping Supervisor, who practically grew-up at the nursery, starting here at 18!
She helped her Grandpa plant his garden when she was little, grew to love pumpkins especially, because he loved growing them and she loved doing it with him.
Get to know Edwina
From her family farm 5 miles away, she landed at this farm, as a recent High School graduate, and met the next big mentor in her life: the founder, Tony Heuver. “Tony saw me grow and helped me through my early adulthood… he wasn’t always easy to work for but he was always fair and treated me equally,” she remembers fondly.
During those formative years, she recalls: “I never thought I would love the hort business.” Then her path led to taking the Landscape Gardener Apprenticeship Program at Olds College and she now engages with the industry at many levels. “For me, work became where I liked to be,” and she would drive on Sunday afternoons through the farm to appreciate the trees, to notice how they were growing and maturing.
Edwina’s love for horticulture grew into a deep appreciation of the vastness and scale of nature’s beauty. She’s now passing that passion on to the next team member she trains. She has a lot to offer: “I started in potting plants, then digging plants… and finally delivering them… I’ve done almost everything here.”
For that next generation of horticulturalists, her sage advice: “You have to be prepared to try everything and be willing to be open to not knowing… you can read all the books you want but it won’t get the work done and the real-life formulas don’t always match the books.”
