Get to know Kelsey

From childhood she just loved being outside, touching the grass and being in nature—her Mum was an avid gardener and her Dad had his own landscaping business. The connection to nature kept growing in Kelsey over the years at the nursery, learning on the job and managing her team: “I like the people I work with… a really good crew, with a good rapport going, people I can trust that take care of things.”

She’s excited about future plans to expand the greenhouse production and explore new structure and technology with plans to grow the perennial side. Challenging Alberta weather demands spaces protected from the elements and there are new innovations being made that will help extend the growing season.

To the next generation of horticulturalists, she has reassuring wisdom: “Plants can be very forgiving… it is really hard to mess up. They are living things and many things could go wrong like overwatering, sunlight issues, mineral imbalances, but if there is a will there is a way—just look at how weeds come up through the sidewalk!”

Kelsey is a testament to not only resilience in nature but also the resilience of those tirelessly dedicated to plant cultivation and their health, especially when they are just little sprouts.
