Get to know Sam

The boy who dreamed of being a forest ranger found himself as an adult working in the machining and mechanical trades, something his engineer father would have been proud of. After moving to Strathmore he had Health and Safety training under his belt and on Valentine’s Day was offered a position in operations at the farm.

The shift from an industrial to agricultural setting for Sam, “felt like coming home… I love my job!” He thrives on being back in a different kind of forest and “being part of this fantastic team, with plans and dreams to expand…”

“Working with nature really attracts me,” Sam echoes when no two days are alike and each day brings a new, unique challenge and the reward of solving problems—its not easy but absolutely fulfilling. His operational experience makes the farm work and keeps his team safe.

His advice to the next generation studying horticulture is very grounded: “Get your hands in the soil! You’re doing what I always dreamed to do but you have a head-start already!” For Sam, the key was transitioning from the lifeless mechanics of industry to a rich and rewarding relationship with nature.
