Get to know Shelby

Her first connection to plants was gardening with her Mum. That’s where the principles about planting and watering got rooted. From there her BSc and her Technical Diploma in Environmental Science gave her the research skills that matched her curiosity about how things work and integrate in ecosystems.

While in University, Shelby spent four seasons working on the farm so she knew the business and the company before taking a full-time role: “It is great to be part of an established organization that has a legacy and is still willing to learn.”

She sees the industry as dynamic and constantly evolving, and is looking forward to incorporating new technologies and practices while maintaining everything at the base of the business. That base is built on people who provide mentorship.

To the next generation of horticulturalist keeners, Shelby expands on that: “Just keep learning because there are a lot of different mentors in many areas—connect the book side of things with the hands-on applied side—learning from experience is more enriching and valuable.” We encourage Shelby to help us grow innovation on this farm and create new opportunities in the industry.
