Elaeagnus commutata
Wolf Willow is a shrub native to Alberta and is rugged with silvery foliage, fragrant yellow spring flowers, and is able to thrive in harsh conditions.
Tolerant of drought, poor soils, and high winds, it’s a resilient choice for erosion control, shelterbelts, and naturalized plantings. Its nitrogen-fixing roots improve soil quality, and the small silver fruit provides food for wildlife. Ideal for prairie and dryland landscapes, where its adaptability and tough constitution shine. May occasionally experience suckering and should be managed to prevent spread in controlled settings.
